Roll Tide, Chicago!

Today’s UA fun fact:

Regarding last week’s game, I have nothing to add that you can’t read elsewhere. I will say this, however: I was there, and Bryant-Denny was exponentially louder than I have ever heard it before. Amazing atmosphere that achingly went to waste. Also, the skyboxes are a great place to watch a football game.

There is a lot of speculation and various scenarios under which Bama could still end up in the national title game. That’s too much scoreboard watching for me. The day after the Iron Bowl, let me know where Bama stands. Until then, all the team can do is keep playing. I hope to see you at the Houndstooth this Saturday to watch them do that. 6:45 p.m. kick-off.

Several people have told me they didn’t know we had new t-shirts this year. Well, we do; check them out: http://rolltidechicago.com/?page_id=335 (the A is a deeper red than in the picture). Order yours before they’re gone. They make great Christmas presents, too.

Meanwhile, with the Penn State story, we are reminded how quickly football becomes irrelevant in the face of something that really matters. My heart goes out to the victims and their families, and also alumni, current students, and players, whose perception of and belief in their university has been thrown into turmoil.

See you Saturday.

4th and Goal, by Marc

It’s been a long week hasn’t it guys? I think I speak for all of us when I say I hate losing more than I enjoy winning. Only two things on the game, since nothing I say will change the outcome. #1 If you are like me, everyone comes up to you and says the following: Boy your kicker A) stinks B) was terrible C) needs to be replaced D) lost the game for you E) all of the above. I say to that 100% BS! After the first kick, which he should have made, the next three are tough kicks for NFL kickers let alone a college kid not named Mike Nuggent (the last really good college kicker that I can think of). Robbie Gold is hard pressed to make 49, 50, and 52 yard field goals on natural grass with that much pressure. Why we didn’t pooch punt and play for field position is a question that I still haven’t heard an answer to. And #2, we have the best running back in the history of Alabama football (I really believe that by the way), why in the world do you throw the ball three times in OT?

Ok, enough about the game I promise I have moved on…

  • I believe that Bama will end the year 11-1 and play in the Sugar Bowl, which while disappointing is still better than playing in the Liberty Bowl
  • If The Tide goes to the National Title game without winning the West, the SEC etc. and beats LSU for the National Title, I will refuse to listen to anyone ever again argue against a playoff system, because if every game counts than how do we end up in the National Title game?
  • If all time gamer Marquize Maze had a bum ankle, why was he out fielding the most important punt of the year? Darn, I said I was finished talking about last week’s game
  • When at the Houndstooth or Another Round make sure to tip your wait staff. God bless those girls at the Tooth on Saturday. They were flying all over the place while we were watching our 6 foot 8 inch TE get out muscled by a 6 ft 2 inch CB who was outweighed by 50 pounds at least. Man, I did it again…
  • Ben Milam, who is our t-shirt designer, is doing a great thing and  growing out a mustache for charity. Please visit his web site http://www.movember.com/m/2297714 for more information and to watch his stash grow.

This week in things I didn’t know until I was a dad: No matter how mad/disappointed/depressed you get  watching your favorite football team blow a chance at home to play for the national title, go home and see your cute daughter in the morning sitting in her bed saying DaDa and try and stay upset. It is very hard, trust me. See ya at the Tooth Saturday night. RTR
