Roll Tide, Chicago!

This week’s UA fun fact: This year, in the Tuscaloosa “metro area” (I use that term loosely), the average economic impact for each home football game was $16.3 million. That’s a lot of houndstooth hats.

Weird season, huh? This year is oddly more suited to the good old days, when LSU would play in the Sugar Bowl, demolish their opponent, and be appointed #1. Thank goodness it’s not the good old days, but I still want a playoff.

I’m taking a couple of weeks off from emails, but we will plan some fun, special things at the Tooth and Another Round for the championship game. So stay tuned.
Order your t-shirts by December 15 to get them in time for Christmas. Any shirts ordered this fall are being mailed as we speak. We are out of XL and 2XL sizes. (If we received your order already, you’re covered.) But we have all other sizes.
Hey, if you haven’t noticed, we’ve got a very good basketball team this year. We’ll put together a few viewing parties this winter so we can all watch together. Most Bama games are on ESPN2 or ESPNU, so any time you’re at the Tooth, just ask them to turn the game on.

RTR and Happy Holidays,

4th and Goal, by Marc

What an end to the year. First the Tide lays the beat down on Auburn, then we have to sweat and panic our way through last Saturday night. I can’t remember a team in a rivalry game lay as big an egg as Oklahoma did vs. State. I mean there is losing and then there is getting embarrassed. Sure we beat Auburn up and down the field, but that was because The Tide is simply better. I don’t think that is the case or at least that big of a case, in that game. It was one team that wanted to play and the other that wanted to be watching the Muppets.,

I’ve said it before, but I will remind all of you again, that Twitter was invented for days like last Saturday and Sunday. When Oklahoma State was crushing Okl. You could follow along in real time all the college football writers talking about the BCS game. Then on Sunday in the morning Andy Staples, Brad Edwards and Stu Mandel all started reporting early in the day that the Tide was going to be in the BCS national title game. If you join Twitter you don’t have to “tweet” but it is a wonderful way to stay on top of things.

So now we play LSU again. If you’re like me, everyone you know that isn’t a Bama fan is telling you how the Tide is lucky or that State should be in the game, etc. Your answer should be very simple. We (meaning every college team) plays by the same rules. The BCS was invented to match the two best teams in the country. It says nothing about A) winning your league B) winning your division C) losing to Iowa State. The Tide did enough in the BCS polls to gain a spot in the national title game. If they don’t like it then they don’t have to watch.

And for anyone dumb enough to say that a rematch is boring tell them to flip on the Big Ten network and find the replay of the Big Ten title game, which was a rematch and also the most entertaining game of the last month.

This week in things I didn’t know until I was a Dad: Tricking, I mean teaching, your kids into doing fun sports related things. My dad taught Maya how to high five and I am teaching her to do TOUCHDOWN. She also likes to somersault.
