Roll Tide, Chicago!

UA fun fact: Last Friday the NAA welcomed hundreds of Alumni scholarship recipients to a party on the lawn of Alumni Hall, including our own Keeley Nolan. Thanks to the generosity of UA’s alumni and UA Chapters, the NAA was responsible for awarding approximately $4.4 million in scholarship assistance to more than 2,400 students for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Pre-Order T-shirts

We welcomed in fall this past weekend.  The cooler weather is one reason we are going to introduce our pre-order for a long sleeve Roll Tide Chicago T-shirt.  We are also going to accept pre-orders for a Roll Tide Chicago kids t-shirt.  Details are still in the works so; we hope to have all the information to you by mid-October.  If you are interested in pre-ordering either the long sleeve or kids t-shirt, or both, please email rolltidechiago@gmail.com with shirt sizes, shirt count, kids or long sleeve and your email address.  Once we have all of the details on the t-shirts we will email you.  We will NOT have the kids or long sleeve shirts for sale at our viewing parties so you must pre-order these t-shirts!!

4th & Goal

There a few things in life that I don’t understand; they include:

  • Biking without a helmet on the streets in Chicago.
  • Standing in life for a movie premier (like the Dark Knight or Twilight, the same goes for people who stood in line last week for an IPHONE5 for days on end) the movie doesn’t change if you see it the following week and the phone isn’t going anywhere if you buy it the next day.
  • Paying face value for Cubs tickets this year, hell paying less than face value to see the Cubs this year!
  • People who don’t like the music of the Kinks.
  • But what I really don’t understand is when guys from Florida Atlantic call out the Tide. http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2012/09/theyre_good_and_everything_but.html#incart_river

Now, if a guy from LSU, Michigan even Ole Miss said this about playing the Tide I can understand it but for a scrub on Florida Atlantic to say this before the game on Saturday well that doesn’t make much sense to me.  I guess the fact that The Tide scored on a 75 yard pass right off the bat sort of shut him up. If the Tide had scored touchdowns in the redzone in the first half the score could have been 70-7.  I don’t have a huge amount to add from last week’s “Game” other than no one got hurt.  The Tide played something like 60 different players and no one got hurt.

Now finally the real season starts. After what I think most people think will be a relativity easy game vs. the Rebels this week and the bye week the real fun starts. Before we all start booking our trips to Miami we have to get through 3 SEC road games including the LSU game and two tough home games. Do I think the Tide can win them all? Sure I do but as we all watched Saturday when LSU struggled against a very average Auburn team on the road you never know when you go on the road.

The more I watch this version of the Tide the more I like it. AJ can sling the ball with the best of them, the defense doesn’t seem to have missed a beat and for the first time in years we can really trust our special teams to hit field goals and even kick the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs. They do seem like the most complete team in the country and it sure is going to be fun to watch the rest of the way.

I told you guys last week that we should all root for Michigan because if Notre Dame starts winning it doesn’t matter how well we, Oregon, UGA, or Florida State play no one will be a bigger story than ND. It has been so long since they have had a team to root for they have to produce odd videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKrVgEbf0po&feature=player_embedded

Let us all thank god that college football isn’t following the NFL with replacement refs. I have no clue who pays the refs in college but can you imagine a Bama game ending the way the Packers/Seahawks game ended on Monday with a National Championship on the line? If all we have to complain about for the next two years is the BCS we are in good shape.

Count me in the camp firmly against the 8:15 CST kickoffs. I understand it is for TV but really 8:15? This game is going to get over way past my bed time (even on a Saturday night) plus what is the deal with all the Saturday night games? I love a good Saturday night football as much as the next guy but last week ND/Michigan, FSU/Clemson, LSU/Auburn and OKL/K-State all going on at the same time? Remember when big games were on during the day?

I know it’s never a good idea to mix football and politics so I’m going to do it anyway: If this video doesn’t change your mind about who to vote for I don’t know what will. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm8msoKME4w I believe this guy will be playing Shubas next week opening up for Right Said Fred.

In this week’s installment of things I didn’t know until I was a Dad: Kids have a way of cutting you down to size without even talking much. Sometimes to save time I take Maya into the shower with me. This past Saturday as we got in she turned around to me pointed at my (well you can guess) and sort of laughed. She is going to make a good girlfriend in 18 years…

See ya at the Tooth on Saturday. I’ll be the one buying shots of Monster Energy Drinks so that I can stay up for the 4th quarter.
