As part of recruitment efforts in the Chicago area, a “send-off” party will be held this summer for local students who have been accepted to UA in the fall. This will be a casual afternoon event (perhaps an ice cream social), and we’re looking for someone who lives in the northwest suburbs who would be willing to open their home to these students and their families. The send-off party allows the students to meet one another, establish relationships with students from their region, and have a support system in place before the semester even begins. And having the party hosted by a chapter member makes the event more personal and shows the loyalty that alums have to Alabama. Please contact the UA recruiting officer for the Chicago area, Bethany Forrest, if you are willing to volunteer your time and your home for this event: bethany.forrest@ua.edu. Expenses such as beverages and food will be covered by the University. Specific dates will be worked out once a volunteer has been found.

    Hi –

I have a home in Highland Park, so I have the house.
Unfortunately I do not have alot of time. Graduated
from Bama in 1957. Was a ZBT, in those days we had
pledgeing and hazing. Still follow the Tide and still
have friends in Birmingham and Mobile.

I am a real Chicagoan and my sister age 85 went to Bama,
and my son age 42 went to Bama. Grew up on the South
Side (Go White Sox) – the only true Chicago baseball
    team.

Haven’t gotten involved with the Chicago Alumni Group
primarily because of the age difference. I’ll be 75
next month and I’m not retired. Also my wife of 49 yrs
    passed away last year.

If you need my house – I will be Around in early August,
till the 7th and then I’m away till the 21st of August.

If you need to contact me; my home phone is 847 432 3367,
office phone is 847 433 4110. My e-mail is above.

    Cordially,

    John L. Shapin
