Roll Tide, Chicago!

UA fun fact: Did you know The Quad was the first on-campus site for Alabama Crimson Tide football home games. The Tide played there from 1893 to 1914 before moving to Denny Field.  Now UA’s quad is used not only for Frisbee, studying and just hanging out it has become the place to tailgate before a home Bama game!  I know this is somewhat football related, but who doesn’t love the Quad!

4th & Goal

When has a 35-0 white wash not felt like a 35-0 white wash? I’d say Saturday was one of the more average wins we’ve seen in the Saban era. It’s good that we have more talent than W. Kentucky because they sure played a lot harder than we did. But we came out of it with a win which as we all know is more than we can say for Arkansas. I have a feeling we won’t be seeing AJ getting sacked 6 times or our running backs only getting 100+ yards this week. While I understand that teams have to play the scrubs to beef up the schedule it always makes me upset when anyone gets hurt vs. a non-SEC team. I know that you could get hurt walking out of the shower or in practice but losing Jalston Fowler to a team like W. Kentucky somehow stinks worse than losing him to Arkansas or Ole Miss.

Isn’t it nice to have a QB that can make a long TD pass from time to time? Now we know what USC and Oklahoma feel like from time to time.

Moving on to Arkansas this week. Before last week I was worried about this game (and I still am) even with Arkansas losing to UL Monroe. I think this game is going to go one of two ways Bama is going to come out and kick Arkansas in the teeth to start the game and the game will be over by half time. Or the Hogs will play inspired football for 3 quarters before we beat them down with the running game. Either way the Tide rolls by 10 points or more. And if that happens this lady will be forced to sing another song:

Quick hits for the week:

  • Auburn is 0-2 and not looking very good. My prediction on the demise of Ol Gene is coming true. I give him one more year before Coach Saban runs him out of the state.
  • While the stadium was half empty I thought it was pretty cool that USC traveled across the country to play in New York City vs. Syracuse. While I love the fact that the Tide plays in Atlanta next year and Dallas this year wouldn’t it be fun to go to NYC, or LA or here to see a game?
  • Did you guys see the story of Nick Sunburg the long snapper for the Redskins? The guy broke his arm in Sunday’s game vs. the Saints but stayed in the game. He just kept telling himself that his arm didn’t hurt. NFL players are some tough dudes aren’t they?
  • I give credit to the Little 10 for scheduling a bunch of games vs. the Pac 10 last week but it would have been nice if they had you know won any of them. When your best win of the weekend is Northwestern beating Vandy that is not a good weekend of football.
  • Wait Miss State is in trouble for paying players? That happens in the SEC?
  • Not sure if anyone caught this but didn’t you love when Georgia fans started the SEC! SEC! chant during the Mizzu game on Saturday night? Old man football indeed.
  • I’m not one to usually praise ESPN because any network that would keep Chris Berman on for life needs their head examined but the new this is Sports Center commercial is maybe the best of all time:

In this week’s installment of things I didn’t know until I was a Dad: Maya loves to read and be read too.  She has a book called I love you Always or something like that. It’s about a Mom that always goes into the kids room and rockers the baby, little boy, high school kid to sleep by saying You are always my baby I love you tonight and always or something to that effect. The end of the book has the son all grown up and rocking his old mother to bed and then he comes home and does the same to his daughter. I swear to you I get misty eyed every time Maya wants to hear this book. I am turning into a big softy.

And finally we are debuting a new segment to 4th and goal called: I forgot what it’s like to live with a crazy Pregnant Wife: I was told the other night that I quote “shower to loud” which would be true if was auditioning for American Idol and belting out Sweet Home Alabama but not so much when all I did was turn on the water…
