Roll Tide everybody!!!
A-day is right around the corner. Please note we will NOT be gathering at the Houndstooth or Around Round to watch the game. Due to previous low attendance and a Cubs game at the same time, the board has decided not to schedule a viewing party this year. The SEC Network will be showing the game at 2:00 PM CT. Like most, I will be at home watching the game myself.
Currently the board is reviewing times and dates for our Annual Speakers event. There will be more information on this topic coming soon.
Attached below are comments from our past scholarship winner providing a “snapshot” of their previous year at the UA.
Keeley was our second scholarship winner. She is scheduled to graduate this May:
I cannot believe how fast my graduation date is approaching in May. I feel like the past four years here at Alabama just flashed before my eyes as I was standing in line to order my cap and gown. I have had the best college experience and I will be so proud to call UA my alma mater. My senior year has been such a blast; trying to take advantage of every moment I have left to be a student here. I went to all the home football games and even travelled to the big away games including the UGA game and Iron Bowl. I am slowly checking off my local restaurant bucket list. I went on weekend trips and long vacations with my friends, I have really taking in the beauty of the campus on my runs. I never turned down a sunny afternoon at Innesfree. I have loved sitting in left field at the new Joe Stadium cheering on the baseball team, and of course I am trying to finish off all my classes on a strong note.
Without my education at UA, I would have never landed the job I got as a financial planner with Plante Moran in downtown Chicago. I was accepted to their internship last summer and was extended an offer for a full time position starting this August; I could not be more excited! I loved what I did during my internship, and as a Chicago local, the city is unbeatable. I will dearly miss the 65 degree winters and laid back atmosphere of Tuscaloosa, but I am ready to start the next stage of my life. But before August rolls around, I have planned a celebratory trip after graduation. I will be backpacking for 5 weeks with some of my close friends to 14 different countries in Europe!
Looking back, my memories at Alabama will stick with me forever and are so precious to me. The four years I had at Bama really have been the cliché “best years of my life.” I am already planning my first visit back as an alumni, not as a student! I want to thank Roll Tide Chicago for helping me get to the University of Alabama in the first place and giving me something to look forward to as a future graduate.
Connor was our fourth scholarship winner. Here are his comments regarding his second year at the UA:
The University of Alabama has enabled me to excel not only in courses catering to my major, but also in other ways as well. I have almost finished my sophomore year at UA, I have been able to make connections and experience the culture that the South embodies. Throughout my freshman year, I was a little skeptical about the “Southern Traditions” the UA had to offer but, as my sophomore year quickly approached I began to embrace it. All in all, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at UA and look forward to my future years to come. I plan to further my education by continuing on to Law School here at Alabama. Roll Tide!
Lastly, this will be my final “blast”. My two year term as President has come to an end. I have enjoyed being a part of RTC for the past 6+ years with the last two years as President. These past two years have been filled with highs and lows but I would not trade them for anything. Thank you for this opportunity. However, you can’t get rid of me that fast! LOL! I will be serving on the board in an executive capacity as Past President, and I’ll be seeing ya at the viewing parties. And there is no better way to end my term than with another National Championship. Woo Hoo…#16!
If you can’t be in T-town for a game, there is no better place to enjoy an AL football than in the Chicagoland area. We have the best fans, alums, and parents. I have cherished ever moment, conversation, viewing party, annual speaker’s event, etc. I proud to mention RTC has had a very successful year. This is a true testament to the time, energy, support and money everyone has given to ensure RTC will continue to thrive for many years to come. As always, our major goal has been to fund our scholarship. I look forward to the day we can offer a “full ride” to a high school senior from the Chicagoland area.
With this being said, I am proud to announce the upcoming 2016-2017 Executive team:
President – Jack Ayers
Vice President – Lisa Southerland
Secretary – Matt Wingard
Treasurer – Bobby Owens
Membership Chair – Linda Crutchfield
Past President – Todd Cheatham
I know we will give them the same support we have given previous leadership team. Thank you for everything 🙂 …and ROLL TIDE ROLL!
President, Roll Tide Chicago
